Gertrude Astor

Born 9 November 1887 in Lakewood, Ohio, USA, as Gertrude Irene Astor.
Died 9 November 1977 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA,. of a stroke.

Gertrude Astor began entertainment work as a musician. While she was quite tall at 5'11" for leading ladies of the day, actor Robert Edeson convince her to try motion picture acting for the Biograph Company in 1915.

Noted as being among the first actors to sign a long-term contract with The Universal Film Manufacturing Company, Incorporated, late in 1915, Gertrude appeared in film productions for Universal (1916-1919) and their production units the Victor Film Company (1916-1917), Lois Weber Productions (1917) and Nestor Film Company (1917-1918).

Astor struck out on her own in 1920 appearing as an independent player in productions by Allen Holubar Productions (1922), C.E.
