This examination of the current preservation debates among archivists of the world’s film archives focuses on the question of future preservation of an analog medium (nitrate filmstock) in an increasingly digital world. Also addressed is the rising expectation of increased public access to archive holdings, and what form such access may entail. As always, scholarly access must be balanced with the highest concerns for the preservation of increasingly fragile archival materials.
This book is the first in the Framing Film series from Amsterdam University Press. Giovanna Fossati is curator at the EYE Film Instituut Nederland.
