Anna Held

Born 8 March 1872 in Warsaw, Poland, as Helene Anna Held.
Died 12 August 1918 in USA of multiple myeloma.

Married playboy Maximo Carrera, 1894; daughter, actress and producer Liane Held Carrera (born 1895); divorced.
Common-law wife of producer Florenz Ziegfeld Jr., 1902; divorced, 1913.

Anna Held began her entertainment career as a singer in Paris, France. Her family moved to London, England, where she earned her rising fame and came to the attention of fledgling theatrical producer Florenz Ziegfeld, who convinced Held to come to America. Ziegfeld’s grandiose promotion made Held a Broadway star.

Held’s film career may have begun with a 1901 film for American Mutoscope Company. Her last film may have been Madame la Presidente (1916), with her daughter Liane appearing as an extra.
