Gloria Hope

Born 9 November 1899 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, as Olive Beech Francies.
Died 29 October 1976 in Pasadena, California, USA.

Married actor Lloyd Hughes, 30 June 1921; son Donald Reid Hughes, born 21 October 1926;
daughter Isabel Francies Hughes, born 16 April 1932; until Lloyd’s death, 6 June 1958.

Gloria Hope was discovered by a representative of the Thomas H. Ince studio while drying her long titian red hair outdoors in 1917 and was soon appearing as a leading lady in motion pictures. She was introduced to her future husband, actor Lloyd Hughes, about 1920 and they were married in 1921. Gloria and Lloyd appeared in their only film together, Tess of the Storm Country (1922), for Mary Pickford.

Gloria made more than two dozen films in a career than spanned 10 years and had been directed by John Ford, D.W. Griffith and Sidney Franklin, but left motion pictures in 1926 to raise her family. She is not the same actress as the Gloria Hope from the 1940s.
