Samuelson Film Manufacturing Company, Limited, production; distributed by Moss. / Produced by G.B. Samuelson. Scenario by Harry Engholm, from the novel A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Cinematography by Walter Buckstone. / Premiered October 1914. Released 28 December 1914. / Standard 35mm spherical 1.33:1 format. / G.B. Samuelson’s first production for his own company. The production was shot from 8 June 1914 through July 1914 in Worton Hall, Isleworth, England, and on location in Cheddar Gorge and Southport Sands. Bragington’s first and only film (Bragington was one of Samuelson’s office employees, cast on the basis of his resemblance to the traditional Holmes look). This film was produced before the Francis Ford version but the film’s release was delayed by war. The film was © 25 November 1914 in the USA by Pathé Frères.
