This DVD edition presents this early Conrad Veidt film in a video transfer prepared from a 35mm restoration print held by the Filmmuseum München, pieced together from an incomplete print and still photographs. Missing intertitles and storyline are reconstructed from German censorship records.

This PAL DVD edition has been produced by Filmmuseum München and the Goethe-Institut, München, from a 35mm restoration print held by the Filmmuseum München, pieced together from an incomplete print and still photographs. Missing intertitles and storyline are reconstructed from German censorship records.

The film is presented with an improvised piano score performed by Joachim Bärenz. Gesetze der Liebe (1927) is presented with a music score by Bernd Schultheis.

The second edition of this disc adds DVD-ROM supplemental material (in German), including original documents by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, and correspondence between Richard Oswald and Veit Harlan.

This high-quality edition is recommended to all with a PAL disc player. North American collectors will need a region-free PAL DVD player capable of outputting an NTSC-compatible signal to view this edition.
